Look Out Bird! by Marilyn Janowitz

t,working on final /d/ and past tense --scroll down for more activities

This lesson is about using the /d/ sound at the ends of words, including past tense words with -ed. We make this sound by putting the tongue in the same place we make the /t/ and /s/ sounds, which is at the top of the mouth right behind the front  teeth.  Here are some simple activities you can do to practice this sound:

.
  1. At a snack time or meal time, talk about the things you already had to eat that day.
  2. Talk with your child about things he/she used to do when younger, e.g,. “When you were little you crawled on the floor, you only ate soft food,."
  3. Practice using the word "did".  Offer a selection of simple tasks & then tell each other which ones you did, ie, "I did the train puzzle.", " I did the pets puzzle,"
Here's a fun rhyme with past tense & final /d/ sounds:
I saw a little bird go hop, hop, hop.
I told the little bird to stop, stop, stop.
I went to the window to say 'How do you do?'
He wagged his little tail and far away he flew!
