Thanksgiving!

.Working on  multisyllable words, scroll down for more

We don't wait for simple things to be perfect before we work on something more complex. Working on long, "hard" words is important to do even when our kids are still working on improving  their short words and single sounds.  Thanksgiving is a great time to target this, because so many of the associated words and traditional terms are multi-syllable words or phrases. Here are some simple ways you can play with "Thanksgiving" words to practice multisyllable words & phrases:

1- How many kinds of pies are there?  How many can you think of? Pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie  What' kind of pies could you make from what's in your kitchen? Lemon pie, cherry pie  Can you think of kinds that aren't sweet? Chicken pot pie, Shepherd's pie, Can you think of some funny kinds of pie? Salad pie, Pancake pie

2- It's fun to talk about what we are thankful for  because it's the same as talking about the things we like. Many times these are best expressed in phrases instead of single words e.g., "I'm thankful for ..."  "going to the library", "wearing new boots" , "Star Wars legos".
